No one's life is without challenges. Sometimes bad things happen to good, honest, hard-working people no matter how hard they try. Health problems, unemployment, and changes in family status can affect any of us at any time.

If you are dealing with serious financial challenges, and you are considering seeking relief from your debts through bankruptcy, you need an experienced Utah bankruptcy attorney to guide you. Through personal, professional service, I have helped hundreds of people with their debt problems since I began practicing bankruptcy law in 1999.

Bankruptcy is a complex system that will help you deal with all of your creditors at once. In a properly structured bankruptcy case, you will only be required to pay your creditors what the bankruptcy law says you can afford to pay, not what they demand. Most people aren't required to pay their creditors anything at all. Once you've done that, you can receive a discharge and not be required to pay the difference. The "bankruptcy" button above will take you to a detailed explanation of how bankruptcy works.

Bankruptcy can help you

  • Stop Collections
  • Stop Creditor Harassment
  • Stop Foreclosures
  • Stop Repossessions
  • Stop Garnishments
  • Resolve Tax Problems
  • Reduce or Eliminate Debts
  • Get a Financial Fresh Start

In 2005, Congress overhauled the bankruptcy code for the first time in nearly 30 years. This new bankruptcy law made significant changes in the bankruptcy system, but it did not eliminate the bankruptcy fresh start as an option for most people.

The bankruptcy process is much more complicated under this new law, making it even more important to hire an experienced bankruptcy attorney. Over 90 percent of my law practice time is devoted to providing fast personal service to consumer bankruptcy clients. I handle each case myself, and I don't pass the work off to paralegals and secretaries like so many other bankruptcy law firms. And just as you should be wary of the so-called "bankruptcy mills" you should also be careful to avoid hiring an attorney who only does a few bankruptcy cases each year, and who may not be fully aware of all the new legal requirements.

All that said, bankruptcy is not always the best option. In those cases, I offer negotiated debt settlement services or I can refer you to the AAA Fair Credit Foundation, a well-established and reputable debt counselor located here in Utah. We can discuss debt settlement opportunities and other potential legal forms of debt relief when we meet.

I offer a free, no-obligation initial consultation where we can meet personally to discuss your situation in detail. Unlike many attorneys, I offer flexible hours, including evening and Saturday appointments, and telephone consultations for clients outside Utah County.

I understand that bankruptcy is a difficult legal step for everyone who considers it. I'm not here to judge you or your situation. I understand that things happen that are often beyond our control. My goal is provide you with helpful, competent and effective legal services, help you find relief from your debt situation, and obtain a fresh start.

When seeking relief from your debts, you need the best lawyer you can get on your side.

I would like to show you that I am that attorney. Please call or email me today.

My telephone number is 801-785-7085 in Utah County, or feel free to use my toll-free number 877-262-9529 if the local number is long distance for you.

You can also email me at info@bkutah.com or just use the "Request Appointment" link above. I can help you even more quickly if you visit the "Online Case Review" page and read the consultation agreement and bankruptcy notices, which are also available in the "Initial Consultation Packet."

I look forward to working with you.
